Jenny Tseng mostly known in Cantonese speaking regions as Yan Nei, is a Macau-born singer, based in Hong Kong for much of her career. Her father is Austrian while her mother is Chinese.
Her powerful voice and straightforward personality have made her a memorable diva with a career that spans over 3 decades. Her repertoire includes both Cantonese and Mandarin songs. Among her most popular recordings were several duets with Roman Tam, such as the music from the 1982 TVB TV series The Legend of the Condor Heroes. She is the widow of kung fu movie star Alexander Fu Sheng, who died in a 1983 car accident. She and her late husband had no children; however in 1987, Tseng gave birth to a daughter, Melody. Somewhat controversially, she has refused to name the father to the present day. Tseng has also clarified her close relationship with her daughter, occasionally referring to her as a 'friend' rather than a daughter-mother relationship.
In addition to singing, Tseng is a successful entrepreneur and has also acted in several films during the 1970s and 1980s. She is considered as one of the most famous singers belonging to the 1960s 1970s and 1980s in which she is frequently compared to her fellow rivals such as Teresa Teng and Fung Fei Fei. Many of her songs have become classics, similar to those of Teresa Teng.
Currently, Jenny is touring on her "愛 Show: Farewell World Tour". She has stated that putting on a large scale concert tour is very stressful and she hopes to spend more time enjoying a simpler lifestyle. The tour kicked off with 4 sold out concerts at HK Arena, and continued to Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, and most recently in the USA. It is expected that upcoming tour stops will be in Macau, Canada, and possibly back to the US.
